8th Grade Algebra at CCHS (Information for 7th Grade Students)
Select students are invited by Central Catholic staff to take Honors Algebra I as eighth graders. In order to be considered, students must meet the following requirements, as determined by Central Catholic High School:
1. Take the math entrance examination
*This will likely take place at Corpus Christi Catholic School in late April-early May.
*The test is a prognosis test to see how well students might learn algebra on their own (without the help of
a tutor) as an 8th grader. This is not a test that a student can study for - it is a measure of a student's
readiness to understand rigorous algebraic concepts.
2. Score at or above the 90th percentile on the math entrance exam
3. Earn an “A” in math both (first and second) trimesters of 7th grade
*Recommendation: maintain an "A" throughout third trimester as well
4. Earn “A" or "B” grades in the remaining core subjects: English, Science, and Social Studies.
Please Note:
*This information is always subject to change but will be promptly updated to reflect the most current requirements set forth by Central Catholic.
*Students who take the math entrance examination can expect to be notified by high school staff in early June.
